Safeguarding Statement
St Mary’s Ufford is committed to the welfare of the children and young people who attend activities provided by the Benefice and the vulnerable adults supported by the Benefice. All staff and volunteers are expected to promote a positive attitude towards the children, young people and vulnerable adults, valuing them and treating them with respect.
In our church community we will:
• Treat all children, young people and vulnerable adults with respect and dignity
• Ensure that their welfare and safety is paramount at all times
• Always act in a professional way and not accept bullying
• Liaise openly with parents and carers
• Only use physical contact if absolutely necessary
• Avoid being alone with children and young people at all times
• Listen to, and act upon, any disclosures/allegations/concerns of abuse against children, young people or vulnerable adults
• Attend appropriate Safeguarding Training
• Make activities fun and enjoyable
• Follow the safer recruitment process of the diocese to ensure all volunteers and paid staff are approved and adequately trained

Safeguarding Policy
The care and protection of children, young people and vulnerable adults involved in church activities is the responsibility of the whole church. Everyone who participates in the life of the church has a role to play in promoting a Safer Church for all.
Safeguarding is an integral part of the mission and ministry of the church in this diocese and is in line with our Growing in God strategy. Safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility.
It is our policy to:
• Promote a safer environment and culture
• Safely recruit and support all those with any responsibility relating those groups who are at increased risk of harm or abuse within the church
• Respond promptly to every safeguarding concern or allegation
• Care pastorally for victims/survivors of abuse and other affected persons
• Care pastorally for those who are the subject of concerns or allegations of abuse and other affected persons
• Respond to those who may pose a present risk to others
